22 Apr 09 -- Fifty of the most beautiful environmental advocates in the Philippines, i.e., the Miss Earth Philippines 2009 delegates joins in the motorcade for clean air campaign.
This clean air campaign dubbed as "The 2009 Earth Day Pollution-Free Motorcade" is lead by no other than Miss Earth 2008, Karla Paula Henry. This motorcade utilizes a breakthrough vehicle known as eJeepney (electric jeepney) which aims to revolutionize the way Filipinos commute around the urban and rural thoroughfares. This is a joint project of the Miss Earth Foundation Inc. and the Green Renewable Independent Power Producer, Inc.
Also, joining the event are the current Miss Earth Philippines 2008's court, Miss Philippines-Water Michelle Oblea and Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism Venus Raj.
The motorcade assembled at the Hobbies of Asia (along Diosdado Macapal Ave.) at 6 am. and kicked-off at 6:45 am to reach Redemptorist Baclaran by 7:00. The motorcade passed through the major avenues of Roxas Boulevard, EDSA, and Shaw Boulevard in Metro Manila, and ends in the Legaspi Mini Park in Legaspi Village, Makati City.
Columnist, commercial model and philantrophist Mr. Illac Diaz is among the celebrity guests who drove one of the eJeepneys. The motorcade utilized other kinds of similar vehicles like electric bicycles, electric scooters, electric cars and electric tricycles.
This event is supported by the Makati City government and Motolite.
The Grand Coronation Night of Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 is on May 10, 2009, at the Arena Entertainment and Recreational Center of the People of San Juan City. This will be televised by ABS-CBN Channel 2.(WE)
