Is it Going to be a Trend?
19 Jan 09 -- Brazil has just recently crowned its rep for Miss Earth, Larissa Ramos and many can’t help but noticing her mulato skin tone.

Just before the Miss Earth 2008 season, an Indian descent won the Miss Benelux title which earned her the right to represent Miss Netherlands in this year’s Miss Earth Pageant.
As I remember, the pre-pageant photos of Miss Netherlands 2008 Melanie de Laat was very white and blonde curly hair but during the pageant season she appeared to have chocolate brown hair with tanned skin (bottom left photo by Marvin Nuto).

And perhaps, her organizers, instead of placing some shade to a very white skin tone they decided to take a genuine one in their next selection in the persona of Sabrina Anijs for 2009 (top right photo).
Then came Miss Martinique, Pascale Nelide. Three deep skin toned representatives in a row. But Pascale’s skin tone is very native to Martinique

During the pageant, a lot are reacting that Miss Earth doesn’t favor blonde representatives. Come to think of it. The “tones” of Hil Hernandez and Priscilla Meirelles have a fair chance of winning Miss Earth.
I, myself, like tanned skin tone. And I am wondering why a lot of Filipinos, like to become white. You can see a lot of offers for gluthathione treatments to make the skin white in the malls and clinics.
But how about the first Miss Earth from Denmark, from Venezuela Alexandra Braun even the recent two winners they are not even tan.
So I would like to believe that it is not a matter of skin tone that one should base the winning ability of delegate. As what Jessica Trisko says, it is more of the total package which includes intelligence, character and confidence and I am happy to say that in Miss Earth all skin tones are welcome.
So the recently crowned from Slovenia need not fret. Wondered who won Miss Czech Republic? There is no tanned winner in the midst.
But let us see how the national organizers will react to these developments. This will definitely keep us on our toes and the year has just started.
