COUNTRY RANKING:>15 NATIONAL ORGANIZER:Miss Earth Italy Can you describe yourself, your background and the place where you are from? I'm a person who likes the simple things, like walking in the forest, tranquility, drawing, traveling and learning in general. I'm very creative and I like creating evening dresses and writing. What are your preparations for the upcoming Miss Earth? I'm reading a lot about the Philippines. I already study Natural Sciences at university, however, I still review relevant information about the environmental problems that plague the world. I’ve watched on the internet the Ms Earth Pageant of 2008. I count on using my experiences as a delegate in the other beauty contests that I had participated in. In your daily life, how are you able to practice environmental awareness? I think little gestures help a lot, so for example, instead of taking the elevator I go by the stairs. (It helps me stay fit.) I pay attention to switch the lights off when I don’t need it. I use the water after cooking the pasta to wash the dishes. I don’t throw papers on the ground. In my opinion, it is very important to give a good example for others to see and follow. Technology, what's your take on this for the environment? Positive or Negative? I think that the development of technology is very important, but technology should be used for the right causes. When technology is applied, people should be very aware of the benefits that it brings, and conversely about the harm that could possibly alter the environment, in this way, it is positive for the world to see the pros and the cons of the application of technology. How important is winning the Miss Earth crown to you? Why? Winning the Miss Earth crown is my dream because it gives me the chance to really help planet Earth and to bring my projects to a full realization. I really hope I'll get the chance to parlay my personal attributes for the improvement of a better world, and being Miss Earth should provide a beautiful opportunity to do this, because wearing the Ms Earth crown is like being a princess:- you are known by almost everybody, this means that you have the chance to influence a lot of people in a positive way and by giving a good example and taking active part in a lot of important activities will certainly help the cause of preservation of a sustainable environment for all. Do you think that Miss Earth has achieved its goal of spreading environmental awareness? Explain. The Miss Earth pageant is very famous and every year so many countries and people watch it unfold. Maybe a lot of people are not aware of the degradation to life caused by environmental problems, and I’m sure that after they’ve watched the pageant live or at home in their TV screens, something inside of them will have stirred at seeing the significance of change in the way we should treat and value the benefits of a wholesome sustainable environment for everyone else. There are sectors that say, global climate change is a hoax. What is your opinion on this? It is true that the temperature changes through the ages, but I think that well-meaning sectors in society shouldn't deny that the environmental changes we're facing today are caused by us! Global climate change cannot be viewed entirely as such a slow process in a natural way because what we are talking about are changes that happened in the recent years, not during the last ages. I'm afraid that a lot of people won't be awakened to the sordid truth until they experience the adverse effects of environmental changes themselves. When the catastrophe happens, it will be already too late. That's why I think it's so important for the people to get fully informed, and my project is based on making people more conscious about the environmental issues and problems of today.
