RIGA, LATVIA. Diana Kubasova, Miss Earth Latvia 2009 is set to partake in the forthcoming Miss Earth 2009 pageant, which will be held from November 1-22 in the Philippines. Her passion with animals and love for the environment will be her greatest advantages in the Miss Earth 2009 competition. Diana is from the Latvian capital city of Riga, the largest city of Latvia and considered the financial center of the Baltic region. She has a degree of economics and business management. She belongs to an affluent family in Latvia and she owns a pet beauty salon network, "Lilly Pet Boutique & Spa." Since her childhood she dreamt of becoming a princess; her family and friends habitually call her “Princess Diana.” In Latvia, she is often compared to Paris Hilton for being rich and famous, not to mention the fact that they’re both blonde with healthy, but a well- trimmed figure to die for. In one of her adventures, she auditioned for a role in a show called the "Latvian Princess" where she was accepted and became the key player of the show. The show is a humongous success in Latvia. Diana’s acting role fits her affection for animals. In the show, she is also a blonde, but has come to march with a dog. In real life, she fights animal abuse and promotes cruelty-free lifestyle campaign. In view of the fact that she likes animals, she recently had a trip to Mombosa, Kenya. She visited Kenya with her boyfriend John Werner to gain more knowledge about animals in the jungle setting. They had fantastic views of the ocean and white sand beach and the African savannahs in Kenya. Diana is prepared to tackle the environmental issues facing Latvia in the Miss Earth 2009 pageant. Like most former Soviet republics, her country suffers from decades of environmental negligence. Soviet economic policies pushed the hasty buildup of heavily polluting industries without regard for the environment. Although some emission controls have been set in place since independence, industrial pollution persists to be a predicament. Untreated industrial, agricultural, and municipal wastes in her country have produced precarious levels of water pollution, especially in the Daugava River and the Gulf of Riga. Air pollution also in her country is most conspicuous in the main urban areas, where industries are concentrated. Fortunately, her country has instituted measures to avert environmental deterioration. Protecting the environment began to be discussed openly in the late 1980s as part of Latvia’s independence movement. Since then, her country’s awareness of environmental issues has grown, and the Latvian government has designated new nature reserves and parks. Diana’s country has also ratified numerous international agreements on reducing air, water, and land pollution and protecting wetlands and endangered species. View Miss Earth Latvia 2009 Gallery
