COUNTRY RANKING:>15 NATIONAL ORGANIZER:Miss Earth Malta Can you describe yourself, your background and the place where you are from? I come from the central Mediterranean island of Malta. I happen to be very much similar like any other girl of my age, i.e. where music, fashion and internet are very much an integral and influential part of life. However, I’ve been brought up in a traditional type of family of four, running a portrait studio and photographic art business. I really enjoy the creation of artistic images and editing them according to my own style. I strongly believe in a balanced life consisting of a commitment to work, good and decent leisure, philanthropic assistance and environmental duties, and a spiritual direction according to one's belief of course. I will be graduating this December from the University of Malta where I have recently completed my four-year Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in I.T. I work as a software developer at a local Maltese bank, and a professional photographer specializing in kids, wedding and fashion photography. The independent island of Malta which is part of the European Union, happens to lie strategically in the very middle of the Mediterranean sea with a typical Mediterranean climate. My rather small island country is an integral part of World War II history due to its Mediterranean role. It is also a haven for history-lovers and sunbathers. What are your preparations for the upcoming Miss Earth? Apart from the commitment itself, i.e. in terms of preparations for the evening gown segment, make-up and all those essential requisites of the competition, I dedicated most of my time browsing on and learning a lot about the host country, the Philippine archipelago! Of course, realizing that Miss Earth is focused on the environmental issues, I researched more about environmentally-friendly products and practices. In your daily life, how are you able to practice environmental awareness? I carry out daily practices to help our environment. This includes:
Technology, what's your take on this for the environment? Positive or Negative? Technology as we know is utilized to make lives easier and more comfortable. However, the wrongful or excessive use of technology will have an irreversible negative effect on our environment. This refers to the excessive amount of use of our own private cars instead of walking short distances or catching public transport. Carelessness in leaving unnecessary lights switched-on for hours costs our environment much more pollution. The mistakes of the past have created the ozone layer problem. So, let us reverse this problem thru better use of technology! Namely, hybrid cars, wind turbines and solar heating are major practices which we need to adopt to help the environment. How important is winning the Miss Earth crown to you? Why? Miss Earth is a beauty pageant with a difference. It's every girl's dream to win a top international beauty pageant like Miss Earth. As we all know, Miss Earth promotes a healthy sustainable environment we live in. By winning the Miss Earth crown, I would be in a better platform to take advantage of the strong media promotions to make the viewers aware that we are living in critical period. To promote and sustain a livable environment, we must act fast, together we can do it. Do you think that Miss Earth has achieved its goal of spreading environmental awareness? Explain. I would say, partially, yes. However, all the delegates that participate each year in Miss Earth must ensure that when they go back to their respective countries, they would exert pressure on their local Minister responsible for the local environment to do even more in order to preserve this international heritage and eventually start with reforestation programs and address the issues related to cleaning-up any environmentally-prone areas. Educating the young minds would play a very critical role in this regard. In addition, the local media in the respective countries can play a very significant role seeking solutions that can lead to a healthy sustainable environment for the people to benefit from. There are sectors that say, global climate change is a hoax. What is your opinion on this? No, I do dot think that this is a hoax. Scientists around the world have acknowledged and given enough evidence to support the contention. We must take their word for it and start the healing process immediately without fail before it would be too late. I do not want to sound like a pessimist but we must act NOW before it is too late! Any message to Woman of the Earth? Most of the women of the world own the right of suffrage to vote for elective officials in their respective home countries. I strongly recommend that the women of the world should give priority in their ballots to well-meaning political parties that seriously support the environment. The elected officials must also educate themselves even more to learn to consume products that are re-usable, hybrid cars, shopping baskets, etc... Special Information: Birthdate: 24th November 1987
Parents Information- Schools Attended: Attard Primary School, 1991- 1998 Career background: I am a Software Developer with the local Bank of Valletta. I work as an active member in a team of software developers whose role is to develop software programs and applications concerning the bank's internal systems, automated teller machines (ATMs), internet banking and mobile banking. To sum up, my role in the bank is to develop applications using information technology to automate most of the flow of work in the bank.
