Gabriela Rejala is Miss Earth Paraguay 2009. She will represent her country in the Miss Earth 2009 in November 2009 in the Philippines. Paraguay is one of the two landlocked countries which lie entirely within the Western Hemisphere.

Gabriela describes herself as down-to-earth, respectful, polite, honest, and a determined person. She has been in a rigorous training for the Miss Earth 2009 competition, physically and intellectually, in view of the fact that her objective is to go far-off in the competition, and attempt to become Paraguay’s first Miss Earth.

Paraguay has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world. Every year, 10% of the remaining forest cover is lost, threatening the future of unique ecosystems. Environmental problems in her country aggravate by poverty, complicate the transition to democracy, and have detrimental impacts on indigenous and non-indigenous women and men.

It is crucial that her country has to develop and implement sustainable land use models and preserve the last remnants of these important ecosystems.

Intensive, unsustainable exploitation of land, water, and wildlife continues in her country. Clearing of forest for agriculture and livestock is the major threat to the survival of these characteristic ecosystems.

These environmental problems in Paraguay will be presented to the international press when she competes in the forthcoming Miss Earth 2009 in the Philippines .
