AN ECO-FRIENDLY beauty queen has thanked readers after winning a place in the Miss Earth UK grand final.

Suzanne Celensu, 24, formerly of Lightcliffe, won the most public votes in the beauty pageant.

Despite missing out on the shortlist for this year's final in the Philippines, she won a place in next year's final, which will give her another chance to compete in the International Miss Earth contest next August.

Profits from the phone calls voting for her will go to the British Heart Foundation. Suzanne said: "I would like to thank Courier readers. I am completely overwhelmed. It's lovely to know that even in difficult times people in the area can still support such a great cause.
